UMW UGANDAN WATER PROJECT

Did you know that one billion people in the world don’t have access to safe, clean water? Just how many is one billion?  It’s hard for us to imagine that many people. However, it is easy for us to imagine just one - one child dying from a water-borne disease, one woman having to walk up to 10 miles a day to get water for her family,  one girl having to drop out of school so she can care for younger siblings while her mother is out getting that water. Now multiply that by one billion and you have an idea of the magnitude of this problem.

The Boonville United Methodist Women have decided to do something about this by getting involved in the Ugandan Water Project (UWP).

Kay Skjellerup reported that the water tank, which the UMW funded ($3,500) through the Uganda Water Project has been placed at the Blessed Hope Champions Academy in Bulamu, Uganda.  This facility is a school and orphanage that was started by Ugandan pastor Joel Bukenya for children who have been orphaned as a result of the AIDS epidemic and war.  The Blessed Hope Foundation, Ripley, West Virginia, helps    support the Blessed Hope Champions Academy.
